With increasing pressures and demands on our diaries, it can be hard to find the time for learning and development. East Dunbartonshire Child Protection Committee is working creatively to best meet the availability of professionals across the workforce. We are introducing ‘seven minute briefings’ to allow managers to deliver a short briefing to staff on key topics – they can also be used to support reflective discussion with practitioners.

Seven-minute briefings are based on a technique borrowed from the FBI! Research suggests that seven minutes is an ideal time span to concentrate and learning is more memorable as it is simple and not clouded by other issues and pressures. Their brief duration should also mean that they hold people’s attention, as well as giving managers something to share with their staff.

Each seven-minute briefing will vary in style and content. The important thing is that you use them to generate discussion on the learning themes/key messages in a way that is relevant and accessible to your service.

If you have suggestions for future briefings you would find helpful, please email your suggestions to: cpc@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
